Beauty's Next Growth is Written in Molecules - Paris is the Start

I’ve walked the aisles at in-cosmetics Global for more years than I care to count. And if there’s one thing experience teaches you, it’s that formulation science trumps glossy branding.

Paris, April 14–16, won’t just be another ingredients showcase. It will be a temperature check on where growth is genuinely heading for beauty and personal care.

And my sense? The fundamentals look strong.

Global beauty continues to expand, and that momentum is flowing directly into the specialty ingredients sector. In the context of flashy branding, product performance still decides repeat purchase.

There was a time when fermentation and bio-designed actives needed a sustainability pitch deck attached. Not anymore.

Biotech has matured into a commercial solution — offering supply stability, precision efficacy and stronger claims support that makes it central to competitive formulation strategy.

Translation for decision-makers: scalable innovation with fewer operational surprises.

The industry conversation has pivoted. It’s less about reversing time and more about optimising skin function.

Barrier repair, microbiome modulation, inflammation balance, longevity-aligned peptides — these aren’t passing trends. They reflect a smarter, more systems-based view of skincare. Consumers want results, but they also want resilience.

The brands that succeed will simplify routines while strengthening biological performance.

If you really want to see where the category is headed, look at encapsulation and controlled-release platforms.

Consumers now expect near-clinical outcomes from everyday products. That requires smarter delivery, greater stability and reduced irritation — the engineering that determines whether a formulation becomes a bestseller or a batch recall.

And then there’s circularity. Upcycled inputs and traceable sourcing are no longer “nice-to-have” talking points. They’re becoming procurement criteria.

Whenever I leave in-cosmetics, my notebook is full — not with product names, but with clues about which technologies define product cycles. This year feels like it will be less noise, more substance.

If growth in beauty over the coming years is to be sustained, it will be built on biotech precision, biological intelligence and disciplined formulation science.

Paris won’t just showcase ingredients. It will reveal who is ready for the next chapter.

See you on the show floor. And yes — comfy shoes remain a strategic winner.
